Lab Testing 101

Why labs matter (and when they don't)

Lab work turns guesswork into data: it can reveal why energy is low, confirm a treatment is safe for your kidneys and liver, or set a hormone baseline so progress is measurable. But testing for testing's sake wastes money — a good provider orders labs when the result would change the plan, and skips them when it wouldn't.

How it works at HDMeds

Do I need labs to start treatment?

Not always. Many programs can begin safely from a thorough intake alone. Your provider will tell you during review if baseline labs would make your plan safer or more effective — common for hormone-adjacent and some longevity protocols.

How do labs work with an online service?

When labs are needed, your provider orders them electronically and you visit a local draw site at your convenience — typically a national lab with thousands of locations. Results flow back to your provider, who reviews them with you by message.

What panels are most common?

A comprehensive metabolic panel (glucose, kidney and liver function), a lipid panel, thyroid screening (TSH), and — depending on goals — hormone panels or micronutrient checks like vitamin D, B12, and iron.

Who pays for lab work?

Lab fees are always shown to you before anything is ordered — same transparent cash pricing as the rest of HDMeds. You'll never get a surprise lab bill.
